“And then there’s the Kleenex.”

– Janet Schultz

I’ll start out by saying I am 74, so I am not sure what season of life I am in, only God knows.

At my age, I have earned the right to just say no to anyone or anything I don’t want to do. After many years of doing and helping with large events at church, I have scaled back to doing smaller events that suit my age. That’s something I have earned by doing my fair share and living a Christian life. This by no means that I am DONE doing my share, I’m just more selective because I love doing my part, I love serving the church. Right now I’m involved in Women’s Ministry, Communion and the Backstage Breakfast Bunch. And then there’s the Kleenex.

One thing I am passionate about is looking for that lady or gentleman who needs a Kleenex or a hug or just someone to listen. I always bring extra tissues to church and have needed it on many occasions. Once, I sat with a gentleman who was attending church for the first time after losing his wife. Once, I sat with a gal whose husband was just diagnosed with cancer. At times people don’t share the specifics. They just need an arm around them and a Kleenex. It is easy to show people you love them; you just need to be open to seeing who it is.

The Lord created different seasons in our life to shape us into who He wants us to be. Even at 74, I’m still growing and becoming the person God wants me to be.

“What do workers gain from their toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart, yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

Ecclesiastes 3:9-11
