His Grace
I am by no means perfect, in fact, I make lots of mistakes, wrong decisions, and sometimes without even trying I end up doing the opposite of what I mean to do.
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
-Romans 7:15-20
The reality is, our flesh has the tendency to do the things that are displeasing to God, it is a constant battle between knowing what is right and wrong and intentionally choosing to do what is right, but in order for us to do that, we need His grace, we need Jesus.
Our lives get so busy trying to do things on our own that we even lose the ability to disconnect and fully engage with Him and His presence. The good news is, He is ever present, always patient and ready for us to make a stop and fix our eyes on Him, rest in Him, celebrate with Him and more importantly delight in Him.
What does this mean for us?
When I realized how messed up my life was and how much I failed Him, I had a hard time forgiving myself. But then He came to wrap His arms around me, to fix my broken life and tell me how much He loves me, and that I am forgiven. I could not comprehend that love, a love that was not determined by my actions, a love that I could not earn, a love that was given to me freely and all I had to do was to accept it, a love named Grace.
His Grace is not to be comprehended, it is to be received, to delight in Him is to receive His grace day to day, this ignites a desire to seek His face, to know Him more, to understand that no matter what your day brings, how rough this season might be, His grace is sufficient for you.
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
-2 Corinthians 12:9
If you are feeling weak, discouraged, overwhelmed or without hope, take courage and give it all to Jesus, rest in His peace and receive His grace. If you feel unloved, His word says that nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate you from the love of God (-Romans 8:39).
May the arms of Jesus wrap you so close and warm today, that every lie is cast away and your hopes and dreams are renewed as you delight in Him.
