RECEIVER

September-001 copy

“God freely gives. We need to freely receive.”

– Carla O’Brien

For HE chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in HIS sight. In love, He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Christ Jesus, in accordance with his pleasure and will – to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.

Ephesians 1: 4-6

Have you ever given a gift to a friend and they didn’t receive it well? You know, not exactly the excitement and appreciation you were hoping for.

This illustration can also play out clearly in our relationship with our heavenly Father who gives us All Good Things. We must learn how to be good and gracious receivers. He desires this for us, but we have to receive the gifts.

As the wife of a football coach I clearly understand the concept of what it takes to be an excellent receiver. A good physical receiver is one who catches everything positive and advances the football for the sake of his team.

We, sisters in Christ, must learn to be excellent spiritual receivers. I have always been a good physical receiver but through the years God has taught me that He wants me to be a good spiritual receiver as well. This is accomplished by believing who God says we are in His word. He chose us before creation. He chose us to be holy and blameless. He predestined us to be adopted. In His glorious grace, He freely gives us a personal relationship with Jesus Christ whom he loves.

Oftentimes, we feel unworthy of this love and grace that is freely given. The truth from the word of God says otherwise. God freely gives. We need to freely receive.

Holy Father, help me receive your love with an open heart and mind. You say I am Beloved. I pray to receive this truth and live life as a spiritual receiver. Amen.
